Overview

National Standard Examination in Chemistry or NSEC is a national level Chemistry Olympiad program organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers for the candidates who are desirous to pursue their education in Chemistry. The candidates who qualify the NSEC represent India on the international level through International Chemistry Olympiad. Participating in this Olympiad program is considered a great achievement since NSEC and other Olympiads have worldwide recognition.

National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) Conducting Body: 

IAPT or Indian Association of Physics Teachers conducts the National Standard Examination in Chemistry among other NSE exams. IAPT is an association of Physics Teachers which is spread throughout the country and helps in conducting other National Standard Examinations as well such as NSEP in Physics, NSEB in Biology, NSEA in Astronomy and NSEJS in Junior Science.

National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) Selection Procedure: Following are the stages to qualify the test:

National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) Exam Pattern:

The examination is conducted in Offline mode. The time duration varies as per the applied test. The exam is conducted in English and Hindi languages (option must be selected at the time of enrollment). The examination is based on the syllabus up to CBSE 12th class. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

Note: Plus 03 marks are awarded for each correct answer and 01 mark gets deducted for each wrong answer.

National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) Eligibility Criteria:

- Age Criteria:

  • The age of the candidates must be between 15 years to 20 years.

- Educational Criteria:

  • Candidates appearing for the test must not have passed/qualified the class 12th Board exam or equivalent earlier than November 30 of the same year.

  • Candidates applying for the test must not have started or planning to start study in a university or equivalent by June of the same year.

  • Candidates must not be appearing for NSEJS of the same year.

- Other Criteria:

  • Candidates must possess or be eligible to possess an Indian passport.

  • Applicant must be residing & studying in India at least for 02 years or earlier before applying OR must be studying in an Indian school at least for 02 years or earlier before applying.

National Standard Examination in Chemistry (NSEC) FAQs:

Ques 1. How can a candidate apply for the NSEC?

Ans. A candidate can apply offline for the exam from the nearest NSE center.The center where candidate submits the application form is also considered a venue for the examination.

Note: Online registration process is delayed till 31st Aug, 2020

Ques 2. I made a mistake while filling up the application form. Can I fill it again?

Ans. Since the application submission process is offline, the form can be filled again and the earlier versions get discarded. 

Ques 3. Is registration mandatory to apply for the exam?

Ans. No, the registration process is mandatory for national-level test i.e. INO.

Ques 4. Can a candidate edit the application form after submission?

Ans. No, it can't be done once the form is submitted and the application fee is paid.

Ques 5. Does NSE send the admit card to the communication address which is mentioned on the application form?

Ans. No, NSE does not send the hard copy of the admit card. The candidate needs to download it from the website.

Ques 6. What are the documents a candidate needs with the admit card for the exam?

Ans. There is no such requirement.

Ques 7. Is there any percentage required to apply for the test?

Ans. No, there is no such requirement, since the minimum eligibility is up to 12th class.

Ques 8. Is there negative marking in the exam?

Ans. Yes, there is a provision of negative marking.

Ques 9. Is the NSEC exam conducted online or offline?

Ans. The exam is conducted in Offline mode.

Ques 10. Which category is exempted from payment of examination fee?

Ans. There is no provision of fee exemption for any category

Ques 11. Can the NSEC application be filled in offline mode?

Ans. The application form can be filled in Offline mode only through NSE centres.

Ans. No, there is no sectional cutoff in the exam.
