Overview
National Standard Examination in Physics or NSEP is a national level Physics Olympiad program organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers for the candidates who are desirous to pursue their education in Physics. The candidates who qualify the NSEP represent India on the international level through Indian National Physics Olympiad. Participating in this Olympiad program is considered a great achievement since NSEP and other Olympiads has worldwide recognition.
National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) Conducting Body:
IAPT or Indian Association of Physics Teachers conducts the National Standard Examination in Physics among other NSE exams. IAPT is an association of Physics Teachers which is spread throughout the country and helps in conducting other National Standard Examinations as well such as NSEA in Astronomy, NSEB in Biology, NSEC in Chemistry and NSEJS in Junior Science.

National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) Selection Procedure: Following are the stages to qualify the test:

National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) Exam Pattern:
The examination is conducted in Offline mode. The time duration is 02 hours (120 minutes). The exam is conducted in English and Hindi languages (option must be selected at the time of enrollment). The examination is based on the syllabus of CBSE 11th & 12th class. The paper is divided into 2 parts i.e. A1 & A2. The detailed exam pattern is as follow:-

Note:

There is a provision of negative marking for section A1 but there is no negative marking for A2.

01 mark from the total allotted mark gets deducted for each wrong answer.
National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) Eligibility Criteria:
- Age Criteria:

The age of the candidates must be between 14 years to 19 years.
- Educational Criteria:

Candidates appearing for the test must not have passed/qualified the class 12th Board exam. Candidates who have qualified the 12th class are not eligible for the test.

Candidates must not be appearing for NSEJS of the same year.
National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) FAQs:
Ques 1. What is the purpose of NSEP?
Ans. The purpose of the test is to evaluate the students' knowledge in Physics subject on a global level. The test also acts as a gateway for International Physics Olympiad. Candidates securing a Gold medal in NSEP can join DAE directly through interview after completing the education. There is no need for them to appear in the entrance test.
Ques 2. How can a candidate apply for the NSEP?
Ans. A candidate can apply offline for the exam from the nearest NSE centre.The centre where the candidate submits the application form is also considered a venue for the examination.
Ques 3. I made a mistake while filling up the application form. Can I fill it again?
Ans. Since the application submission process is offline, the form can be filled again and the earlier versions get discarded.
Ques 4. Is registration mandatory to apply for the exam?
Ans. No, the registration process is mandatory for national-level test i.e. INO.
Ques 5. Can a candidate edit the application form after submission?
Ans. No, it can't be done once the form is submitted and the application fee is paid.
Ques 6. Does NSE send the admit card to the communication address which is mentioned on the application form?
Ans. No NSE does not send the hard copy of the admit card. The candidate needs to download it from the website.
Ques 7. What are the documents a candidate needs with the admit card for the exam?
Ans. There is no such requirement.
Ques 8. Is there any percentage requirement to apply for the test?
Ans. No, there is no such requirement, since the minimum eligibility is up to 12th class.
Ques 9. Is there negative marking in the exam?
Ans. Yes, there is a provision of negative marking.
Ques 10. Is NSEP exam conducted online or offline?
Ans. The exam is conducted in Offline mode.
Ques 11. Which category is exempted from payment of examination fee?
Ans. There is no provision of fee exemption for any category
Ques 12. Can the NSEP application be filled in offline mode?
Ans. The application form can be filled in Offline mode only through NSE centres.
Ques 13. Does NSEP exam has sectional cut-offs?
Ans. No, there is no sectional cutoff in the exam.
