Overview
The Assam State Level Eligibility Test (SET) is organized by the State Level Eligibility Test Commission, Assam in all the University Centres of North East states. The examination is for lectureship. This exam is conducted to hire eligible applicants for the posts of lecturer within the jurisdiction of the Member-States of this SLET Commission.Aspirants who qualify in the examination are suitable to apply for the posts. Candidates are advised to apply for the posts in online mode on the official website.
Assam State Level Eligibility Test (SET) Conducting body:
The State Level Eligibility Test is held in English in all states in India and some universities also. States opt to conduct their own test i.e.State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for lectureship only. Applicants who qualify in the examination are qualified to apply for the post of lecturer within the jurisdiction of the Member-States of this SLET Commission.

Assam State Level Eligibility Test (SET) Selection Procedure:
The entrance test consists of two papers. The multiple choice based and the question based on the forms given below.

Paper I is based on the general subject, and applicants are evaluated on teaching/research aptitude

Paper II consists of 100 objective type questions and each of 2 marks. There is no negative marking in the exam. Applicants belonging to PWD category get a compensatory time of 20 minutes in the paper I and 40 minutes in paper II respectively.

Assam State Level Eligibility Test (SET) Eligibility Criteria:
Education Qualification:
(i) Any Indian National who has scored at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master's Degree or equivalent examination from institutions/ universities recognized by UGC. However, the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Person with Disability (PWD) Category, the Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer who have secured a minimum of 50% marks in Master degree or equivalent examination are eligible to appear in the Test.
(ii) An applicant who has given or will be giving the final Master's degree (final year) examination and the result is still awaited or applicants whose qualifying examination has been deferred may also apply for this Test. However, such applicants will be admitted temporarily and shall be treated qualified for award of pass certificate only after they have passed the Master degree examination or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks in case of unreserved category and at least 50% marks in case of OBC (Non creamy layer), SC/ST/PWD category candidates. Such candidates must receive a Master's Degree within 2 (two) years from the date of SLET result with an appropriate percentage of marks failing which they shall be considered as disqualified. Applicants are qualified to appear in the subject of their Postgraduation only. The candidates whose Post graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects as appeared in item 5 (i) may appear in a related subject.
(iii) Applicants belonging to the transgender or the third gender would be qualified to draw the same relaxation in fees, age and qualifying criteria as are available to SC/ST/PWD Category. The subject wise Cut offs for this grading should be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PWD/OBC (NCL) grade in the interrelated subject.
(iv) The Applicants who have a Ph.D. degree and whose Master level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of acknowledgment of result) shall be qualified for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks. (i.e from 55% to 50% for appearing in SET.
(v) Candidates belonging to OBC (Non creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD category are required to attach a copy of the category certificate along with an online printout of their Application Forms (obtaining while applying online). The Non creamy layer credential should be up to date. Other applicants are not required to submit any certificate/ documents in support of their eligibility along with a print out of their Form. Therefore the candidates in their interest must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for Tests. In the case of any ineligibility identified by the Commission at any stage, their candidature will be canceled and they are accountable for legal action.
(vi) There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Asstt. Professors. Applicants who qualify in the test are eligible to apply for the post of Asstt. Professor within the authority of the Member States of this SLET Commission. They will be furnished with a Pass certificate and the effective period of the certificate is forever.
Age Limit: There is no higher age limit.

Assam State Level Eligibility Test (SET) FAQs:
Ques 1. When is the passing certificate issued and what is the procedure?
Ans. The Pass Certificate is issued after 30 working days from the date of the publication of the SET result. The cost of the certificate is Rs. 250/-. The payment of fee through a Bank Draft in favour of Member Secretary SLET Commission, N. E. Region drawn on SBI Gauhati University Branch (2060) only.
Ques 2. When do I submit my documents to apply for the Assam SLET exam?
Ans. The candidates are not supposed to submit their documents during online application form filling or otherwise. Once the result is announced, qualified candidates are asked to submit the certificate for verification.
Ques 3. For how many years Assam SET Certificate is valid for?
Ans. The validity period of the certificate is forever.
Ques 4. What is the procedure to change my exam center
Ans: Applicants will be permitted to switch the exam centre by paying an extra payment of Rs. 300/-.
Ques 5. I have secured 45% marks in MA and I belong to the ST category. Am I eligible to apply for Assam SET?
Ans. No, the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Person with Disability (PWD) Category, the Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer who have secured a minimum of 50% marks in Master degree or equivalent examination are eligible to appear in the Test.
Ques 6. What are the minimum qualifying marks required for Assam SET?
Ans. Top 6% of total appearing applicants in all three papers, who will achieve a minimum of 40% total marks (35% for applicants from reserved categories) will be announced as qualified and eligible for Assistant Professor.
Ques 7. Why am I not able to edit my application form?
Ans. No editing or modification is permitted after the final submission of the application form.
Ques 8. Is there any procedure to pay the application fees in cash payment mode?
Ans. Though the application fee can be submitted to the organisation through online mode only. But for the cash payment option, you can search for the nearest bank branch, generate an online challan and make the payment at any SBI branches PAN India.
