In Japanese medical schools, women's admission rates have significantly improved as compared to male applicants, for the first time in 03 years after a gender discrimination scandal.

In 2021, 13.6% of female students secured the place as compared to 13.5% of male students.

The academics and doctors called it a significant difference, however small, after historically low admission rates of female students entering the profession.

In 2018, a government inspection investigated that at least 09 Japanese medical schools were manipulating their entrance exams and intentionally making it harder for female students to get in.
