Overview

The DELF/DALF is a diploma offered by the French Ministry of Education for non-French applicants to prove their French language skills. There is a total of six independent diplomas which corresponds to the six levels of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Following types of exams are under this language test: DELF, DALF, DELF Prim, DELF Junior version, DELF for school, DELF Pro and DILF.

• DILF: For beginners & the freshly arrived in France. DILF is only available on French territory and is considered the first step toward DELF and DALF.

• DELF: For everyone learning the French language from 18 to 77 (or more). It is divided into 4 levels: A1, A2, B1 and B2.

• DELF Prim: For elementary school children aged 7 to 11 years. Prim is divided into 3 levels i.e. A1.1, A1 & A2.

• DELF Junior and DELF for schools: For middle school and high school teenagers aged from 12 to 18 years. DELF is divided into 4 levels i.e. A1, A2, B1 & B2.

• DELF Pro: For students/workers whose goal is to integrate or to be promoted in France or in a French-speaking environment. DELF Pro is divided into 4 levels i.e. A1, A2, B1 & B2.

• DALF: For adults either at university or working who already know the language enough to speak independently. DALF is divided into 2 levels: C1 and C2 and are considered of the highest levels. DALF C1 and C2 are considered the best diplomas of the French language.

Diplome d'Etudes en Langue Francaise (DELF) Exam Pattern: 

There are total 7 levels namely A1.1, A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 where A1.1 is for beginners and C2 holders are considered Master in the French Language. The time duration is different for each level. All the levels contain four sections i.e. Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. The details regarding the different levels are following:

- Level A1.1: DILF and DELF prim, both conduct exams for level A1.1.
