Overview
Karnataka Civil Services Examination (KCSE) is organized by the Karnataka Public Services Commission (KPSC) for the employment of eligible applicants for numerous posts in the Ministries and departments in Government of Karnataka. The exam is organized yearly. Desiring applicants who want to appear in the exam can apply online through the official website.

The Karnataka Public Service Commission is the state agency that is authorized to organize the Civil Services Examination for entry level appointments to the various Civil Services of Karnataka.

Karnataka Civil Services Examination (KCSE) Selection Procedure:
The exam is conducted in two phases-

Preliminary Exam
-
Mains Exam and Interview
The selection of the candidates purely depends on merit which is based on the performance in the above-mentioned rounds.
Karnataka Civil Services Examination (KCSE) Exam Pattern:
Preliminary Examination:- The preliminary examination is of qualifying nature and is conducted Offline. The examination consists of two papers of Objective nature of a total duration of 2 hours each. The examination contains Objective type questions. The pattern is as follows:-

Note:- There is a provision of negative marking. 0.25 marks get deducted for each wrong response. The question paper is bilingual i.e.Karnataka and English.
Mains Examination:- The candidates who are shortlisted from the preliminary examination are allowed to sit for the mains examination. The KPSC Mains examination has papers of Descriptive nature. There are as many as 8 papers in the Mains Examination. The first 2 papers are in Kannada and English, the next two papers are based on General Studies. The last four papers are based on the two optional subjects opted for by the candidate. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:-

Note:- A minimum of 35% is required in the first two papers of Kannada and English. However, these papers are purely qualifying in nature and therefore their scores are not taken into consideration for the final merit list.
Interview:- The candidates who are shortlisted from the mains examinations are called for the interview to judge their mental ability, decision making, and their suitability for the service. The Interview carries 200 marks.
