Overview

The SIELE exam is also known as the Servicio Internacional de Evaluacion de la Lengua Espanola and is globally recognized as the official Spanish language proficiency test that certifies the knowledge of the Spanish language. The examination is a single multilevel type, one which enables applicants to receive the SIELE certificate and gauges with the provisions of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) from the European Council. Servicio Internacional de Evaluacion de la Lengua Espanola (SIELE) Selection Procedure: There are two types of SIELE tests.

  • Siele Global- The SIELE Global exam comprises four tests, namely Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.  It is a single multilevel exam that allows the opportunity to obtain the SIELE certificate and is also associated with the levels of CEFR(Common European Framework of Reference for Language).

  • Independent Modalities: There are five other exam modalities and these are based on various tests. There are four possible combinations of the test. S1  (Reading and Listening), S2 (Reading and Written Expression), S3 (Listening and Oral Expression), S5  (Written Expression and Oral Expression) and S4 (Only Oral Expression).The combination offers a score between 0 and 500 for S1, S2, S3 and S5 and between 0 and 250 for S4 with one exam.

Servicio Internacional de Evaluacion de la Lengua Espanola (SIELE) Exam Pattern: 

The SIELE is a CBT (including the oral test) online exam.SIELE exam consists of four specific tests i.e. Speaking, Writing, Listening, and Reading of Spanish language. Scoring is automatic & manual both with a maximum score of 250 points. Candidates get an individualised grading of each level for each of the four different communicative competencies. The predetermined time for the examination is 3 hours plus a 15-minute added break time.

The four stages of the SIELE proficiency exams are:

  • Written Expression and Interaction

  • Spoken Expression and Interaction

  • Age criteria: There is no age limit.

  • Educational Criteria: There is no Educational criteria to appear in this test.

  • Applicants, irrespective of their age and background, can also apply for this test.

Servicio Internacional de Evaluacion de la Lengua Espanola (SIELE) Syllabus:

- Reading Comprehension:

  • short texts having multiple-choice questions

  • longer texts with multiple-choice questions

  • multiple texts related to a similar theme

  • texts having additional information which needs to be selected from a list

  • paragraph with missing vocabulary which needs to be selected from a list.

- Listening Comprehension:

  • simple single-word answers

  • sentence fragments

  • statements and their meaning, the intention, or the ideas conveyed by the speaker.

- Written Expression and Interaction: 

  • There are two parts in this section.

  • First part is responding to a short letter that requests information using 100 to 150 words

  • Second part is to express an opinion using 250 to 300 words.

- Spoken Expression and Interaction:

  • Candidates are asked to address five different tasks/questions and their spoken answers are recorded.

  • Tasks include simple questions of a personal nature, making a plan or an argument, a description of photos etc.

Ques 1. What is the registration procedure for the test?

Ans. The candidates can register online and receive certain times and dates for sitting their SIELE exam in India or anywhere in the world. That also a few days or even hours before the exam dates are chosen.

Ques 2. How long does it take for result declaration?

Ans. Within 21 days of sitting the test, the candidate receives an email letting know the certificate, test scores, and a CEFR level equivalence. And of course, a numerical score representing the sum of each test. The test results are also available on the SIELE official website.

Ques 3. Is there any provision to choose the examination date and centre?

Ans. The candidates can choose the day, time, and authorised Exam Centre as per their convenience.

Ques 4. How can an applicant decide the level for which he/she wants to appear?

Ans. The SIELE overcomes the dilemma of what level to aim for because it is a single multi-level test that grades the students' Spanish proficiency from A1 to C1 - all linked to the CERF.

Ques 5. Do applicants fail the exam?

Ans. It's not possible to fail the SIELE exam. The scoring range is from 0 to 1000. So without passing or failing, applicants can find out which level they are on. 

Ques 6. How long is the SIELE certificate valid for?

Ans. The SIELE certificate is valid for FIVE years.

Ques 7. How many exam centres are there in India?

Ans. There are a total of 20 SIELE exam centres in India.

Ques 8. How much does the exam cost?

Ans. For S1-S5, The Fees for the exam is between 45 euros to 75 euros. For SIELE Global, Fee is 135 euros. All the exam centres across the world have the same fees.

Ques 9. Who can take the exam?

Ans. Anyone who wishes to accredit their mastery of the Spanish language, who either speaks Spanish as a first, second, or foreign language. SIELE is directed towards young people and adults and is a particularly appropriate option for people needing fast accreditation for University admission or job applications.

Ans. Following are the list of the levels and the proficiency related to those levels:

  • A1 Level: Beginner

  • A2 Level: Elementary

  • B1 Level: Intermediate
