On July 27, the nation's pride and former president Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam passed away. Vice President Venkiah Naidu, J P Nadda and several other Union Ministers paid tribute to Abdul Kalam on his 6th death anniversary.
Recipient of Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna, Kalam served as the 11th President of India.
Born on Oct 15, 1931, he faced hard times in his childhood, but he worked and studied hard to achieve his aims. He studied aeronautical engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology.
In 1958, he joined the DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) as a senior scientific assistant. In 1969, he joined the Indian Space Research Organization with the responsibility of project director of the first satellite launch vehicle SLV-III.
In 1982, Kalam became the Director of the DRDO and implemented the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program. This program awarded him the nickname of "Missile Man".
Later, he was also appointed as the senior scientific adviser in Defense Ministry of India. He also played an important role in the Pokhran-II tests held in 1998.
In 2002, he became the President of India and was also called the People's President.
