In Bhubaneshwar, Ukraine, returnee aspirants staged a dharna around the state assembly on Wednesday, demanding the Center and the state government give them admission to Indian Medical Colleges. Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the education of children has been affected.
The medical students who returned from Ukraine came in a procession with their parents, and all of them are displaying placards with slogans like "accommodate all Ukraine returnee medical students in India" written on them. Indian government evacuated around 18,000 medical students, including 470 students from Odisha, after the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6 requesting to allow the continuance of studies of Ukraine returnee medical students. Even the chief minister has ensured the Ukraine returnee students in enforcing possible solutions for this matter.
One of the MBBS second-year students of the medical college in Ukraine, Pratik Dhal, stated that four months have passed, but no decision has been made by the government to accommodate students returning from Ukraine to Indian Medical Colleges to complete their education. The students also said that around 4,000 students out of 18,000 have been permitted to terminate their internships in India. But, they should also adjust the remaining MBBS students at more than 600 medical colleges in India.
One of the students also said that government should treat these students as war victims and save their careers. The students on dharna also thanked chief minister Naveen Patnaik and prime minister Narendra Modi for rescuing them and saving their lives during the war.
