On 26th October 2021, the global authority in education rankings, U.S. News & World Report, published the 2022 edition of the Best Global Universities rankings. The new edition has been based on more than 1,700 schools in the overall ranking on academic reputation and research.

In the overall ranking, the US is leading, with schools in the top four spots. Harvard University got ranked 1st, Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2nd, Stanford University 3rd and the University of California–Berkeley 4th got ranking followed by University of Oxford and Columbia University at 5th and 6th position respectively. Among the top 5 Universities is the University of Oxford.

The universities included in the 2022 edition of the Best Global Universities rankings are from more than 90 countries. Moreover, most ranked schools from the following countries around the globe -

The chief data strategist at U.S. News, Robert Morse said that Best Global Universities rankings stand out from their other education rankings due to their priority on academic research. He also said that the Best Global Universities feature an overall ranking of 1,700 + universities, as well as subject rankings of additional 255 universities. It provides detailed information for these 2,005 schools for prospective students interested in schools, given top priority to research.

There are five new subjects that are included in the rankings, thus resulting in 43 as total subjects. The new included subjects are polymer science, physics & condensed matter, food science & and technology, chemistry & physical and optics
