The Cambridge English: First (FCE), also known as B2 First is an English Test for candidates who want to communicate in English in everyday situations. FCE being one of the most popular exams of Cambridge English provides a good language skills for applicants who wish to study for a professional English qualification or work independently. Cambridge English: First (FCE) Selection Procedure: There are four sections of the FCE test:

  • Reading and use of English

  • Writing

  • Listening

  • Speaking

Cambridge English: First (FCE) Exam Pattern: 

The test is conducted in both modes i.e. in  Online as well as Offline. The time duration of the test is  03 hours and 30 minutes. The Online test is conducted in the months of  February, April, July, August and November  whereas the Offline test is conducted in the months of  March, May, June, August and December. The level of the exam is B2/Upper intermediate.

Reading and Use of English

  • There are total 7 parts in this section and the no. of questions are 52.

  • Out of seven parts 1-3 receive 1 mark for each correct answer, 4-6 receive 2 mark for each correct answer and 7nth part carries 1 mark for each question.

  • The total time duration of the Reading section is 75 minutes.

Writing

  • There are total two parts in this section.

  • The total time duration of the Writing section is 80 minutes.

  • Each part carry same no. of marks.

Listening

  • There are total 4 parts in this section and 30 questions with each question having 1 mark.

  • The total time duration of the Listening section is 40 minutes.

Speaking

  • There are total 04 parts in this section.

  • The total time duration of the Speaking section is 14 minutes.

  • The total weightage of this section is 20%.

Cambridge English: First (FCE) Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Applicants, irrespective of their age and background, can apply for this test.

- Reading and Use of English:

  • Part 1-Cloze Test Multiple Choice

  • Part 2-Sentences with multiple-choice gaps

  • Part 3-Word Formation

  • Part 4-Word Transformation

  • Part 5-Sentences with MCQ questions

  • Part 6-Passage with missing sentences

  • Part 7-Multiple Matching

- Writing:

  • Part 1-Essay writing

  • Part 2-An Article, Essay, Letter, Report or Review writing

- Listening:

  • Part 1-There are 8 recordings to listen with each having one question.

  • Part 2-Multiple matching

  • Part 3 -There are gapped sentences to complete after listening to the content.

  • Part 4-A recording for longer time having MCQ.

- Speaking:

  • Speaking exam is done between two aspirants and two examiners examine them out of which only one participate in the conversation.

  • 1st part is short question-answer between an aspirant and an examiner.

  • 2nd part is Visual looking session and discussing it with each aspirant.

  • 3rd part is a two-way conversation between the candidates.

  • 4th part is a discussion between the candidates regarding the conversation (Part 3).

  • Candidates are judged as per their pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and appropriateness of the language.
