Indian Army is the largest section of the Indian Armed Force that confirms Nation's security by upholding peace and security within its borders. SSB organizes exams on behalf of the Indian Army. This exam is held for the post of Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme. The applicants can apply for the exam in online mode through the official website. The exam is offline based.

SSB conducts exams on behalf of the Indian Army for numerous posts across the country. Selection Board (SSB) is an organization that assesses the aspirants for becoming officers in the Indian Armed Forces.

• Army Technical Entry Scheme interview is being carried out by the Army Staff Selection Board (SSB). The interview process goes on for five days during which applicants appear for the Psychological Test, Group Test and Interview.

• All those candidates who are reported victorious in five days interview round are invited for the medical test. A final merit list is created for the applicants who pass medical tests in accordance with the number of vacancies. These chosen applicants are sent to three technical institutions, i.e.  Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE),College of Military Engineering (CME), Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) for training.

SSB Interview Procedure: Interview Procedure comprises of two-stage selection process:

Stage 1: This stage consists of Officer Intelligence Rating tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT). Stage 1 is a screening test.

Stage 2: This stage is held for four (4) days. Stage II consists of Psychology Tests, Group Testing Officer Tasks (GTO Tasks), Conference &Interview.

Five Days SSB Selection Procedure:

Day 0 (Reporting):

On this day, applicants have to report to the selection center. Applicants original documents along with photocopies are verified. After the documents verification, Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) Form is filled.

PIQ Forms: In this form, applicants have to fill their personal details regarding educational profile, family background, etc. This form is very important. It forms a base of questions, which might be asked to an aspirant at the individual interview round. 

Day 1 (Screening Test):

On the next day, it is in Stage 1. Applicants have to give an Intelligence Test (Verbal & Non Verbal) & Picture Perception Test. In the PP test, slide (hazy or clear) is shown for 30 seconds & applicants have to write the story. After complete this test, the group discussion round takes place.

Intelligence Test: It comprises verbal and non verbal questions. It is a written test that includes multiple choice questions. The time allotted to each question is 30 seconds.

Picture Perception and Discussion Test: This test includes story writing and discussion. A picture is shown to the applicants for 30 seconds and applicants have to write a story based on the picture in 3 minutes.

Day 2 (Psychology Tests):

It is a written tests, organized by a Psychologist. In these tests, the applicants psychological suitability is checked to be an officer. These tests include:

Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): It is called Picture Story writing. This test is very similar to PPDT. In this test, about 11 pictures are shown. Each picture is displayed just for 30 seconds after that candidates have to write a story based on the picture within 4 minutes. After4 minutes another picture is displayed and the same procedure is followed till the last slide. The twelfth slide shall be blank where a candidate is supposed to write any story of their own choice.

Word Association Test (WAT): It is the second psychological test of the SSB selection procedure. In the test, 60 words are shown back to back for a period of 50 seconds. Applicants have to write the first thought that comes to their mind for those words.

Situation Reaction Test (SRT): In this test, applicants get a booklet with 60 situations, written on it. Applicants have to write their responses based on those 60 situations.

Self Description Test (SD): In this test, candidates have to write their opinion about their parents, friends,themselves, teachers & others. The allotted time is 15 minutes.

Day 3 & 4 Group Testing Officer Tasks:

These Tests are interactive indoor and outdoor activities as a combination of mental and physical work:

Group Discussion: In this round, a certain situation or topic (mostly current affairs) is given to a group of applicants. They are expected to discuss the various aspects of the issue. Group Task Officer observes each applicants during the course of the group discussion.

Group Planning Exercise (Military Planning Exercise): In this round, a model of real-life practical circumstances are presented to a group of applicants. They have to write their own plan of action for the mentioned problem.

Progressive Group Tasks (PGT): In this round, the group of applicants has to cross some obstacles with the help of supporting materials such as rope, plank, wood log etc.

Half Group Tasks: This round is the same as PGT but the numbers of group members are half. Applicants get more chances to show their potential.

Individual Obstacles:  In this round, applicants are required to attempt 10 obstacles individually.

Group Obstacles Race or Snake Race: In this round, all group members compete with other groups. Candidates are required to cross certain obstacles with the snake-like rope.

Command Task: In this task, an aspirant acts as a commander. He is required to cross some obstacles with the help of 2-3 subordinates.

Lecturette: In this round, each applicants has to give a lecture for 3 minutes on a topic selected by them.

Final Group Task: It is the same as PGT. Applicants have another chance to show their potential.

On the same day, the candidate's interview is held. It involves a personal conversation with Interviewing Officers.

Day 5 (Conference):

On the final day, applicants & all the SSB board members sit together and have a chat with the applicants to ask a few general questions.The conference is just to decide whether you are recommended as an officer in Indian defense forces or not. Applicants are required to appear before the complete Board of Examiners, which consist of President, Deputy President, all the GTOs, all the psychologists, and Technical Officer.

Within an hour, the SSB result is declared after completion of the board meeting. Selected applicants undergo a medical test for further 3 or 5 days. After qualifying the applicants medical test, the final merit list is announced.

SSB - Indian Army (10+2) Technical Entry Scheme Eligibility Criteria:

To apply for the Army Technical Entry Scheme, a candidate must have passed 10+2 with Science subjects (Math, Physics, and Chemistry) with a minimum of 70% of total marks from a recognised board or university. The age of the applicant should be within 16.5 years to 19.5 years.

Only unmarried applicants are qualified to apply for Army Technical Entry Scheme and the applicant must be physically fit as per the criteria laid down by the Army.

2. Training Duration: SSC Tech and NCC candidates are trained in OTA for a duration of 11 months. And CDSE candidate is trained in IMA, for a duration of 18 months.

3. Choice of Arms:SSC Tech usually gets hired into technical arms like Engineers, Signals, etc. CDSE and NCC entry can be picked for both professional and nontechnical based on Qualifications.

Ques 7. What is the Salary and Allowance for the Indian Army Technical Entry Scheme (TES)?

Ans: As soon as you successfully fill your TES 38 application, you will get a roll no.

Then at the end of July or August, you will get your call letter. Indian army has this new system where they are allowing candidates to choose their date for SSB, but not the center.

The cutoff varies!

All the even courses i.e. TES 32,34,36, of January you will have higher cutoff as compared to TES 33, 35, 37, which are called the odd course or July course!

The cut off for TES 36 was 87% PCM

The cut off for TES 37 was 81% COM

This difference is basically because several candidates passing their 12th will be applying for even course. So the expected cutoff may vary anywhere between 82% to 87% or even more.

Ques 9. What documents should I bring for the TES Army SSB?

Ans: For the TES Entry of Army, the following documents are required at the SSB during documentation.

1. 10th class mark sheet and passing certificate.

2. Class 12th mark sheet and passing certificate.

3. TES application form with a photo attached to the top front right corner in the space provided.

4. If documents are submitted at the college, get a letter from the college stating that the certificates are in their possession. The format is attached to the TES call letter.
