Overview
The Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) is a contemporary test of Russian language for foreign citizens compliant with the best European quality standards. It consists of five parts i.e. listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary. This test is compiled by the experts of each university authorized to run the test.
Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) Conducting Body:
The test began in 1992 and is administered by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. At the commencement of 2018, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation sanctioned Herzen University to handle the State Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL). The examination is conducted in universities across Russia and Europe. It is established as a part of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and is acknowledged worldwide as an attestation of one’s knowledge and linguistic skills in the Russian language.

Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) Selection Procedure:
The TORFL consists of six levels of proficiency that signify the framework of the European Language Council (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2). Every level includes five modules examining linguistic abilities in

A passing grade in the test for each level necessitates a minimum score of 66% for each module (within this overall percentage a minimum of 60% is legitimate in one of the section modules). The test takes place over two different days. On the first day, the three parts: Lexis and Grammar, Reading, Listening and on the second day, the last two parts: Writing and Speaking, are passed. The examination is commonly held during the second week of March each year.

- TUW-Elementary Level:
The Elementary Level (A1) of the Russian language substantiates that the pupil is competent to attain his or her basic communication objectives in day-to-day communication using a limited lexicon, expressions, and so on.

Grammar and Vocabulary: This section includes 110 objective type questions about basic grammar. A lexicon of about 780 words is required.

Speaking: This part requires the pupils to introduce themselves in the Russian language. Also, the examiner asks a few questions in which the students have to respond orally in the Russian language. Two examiners take a test of one pupil.

- TBU - Basic Level
The Basic Level (A2) of the Russian language points out that the pupil can express themselves in real life social settings and the cultural sphere. This level presents an essential basis for any professional exercise or work.

Grammar and Vocabulary: This section includes 110 objective type questions about basic grammar, like conjugation and declension. A vocabulary of about 1300 words is required.

- First Certificate Level (TORFL 1) - Intermediate level
The first level (B1) of the Russian language verifies that the aspirants can carry themselves with dignity and confidence in normal social circumstances and the cultural, institutional and professional fields. This level is compulsory for entry in an undergraduate course at Russian universities.

Grammar and Vocabulary: This section includes 165 objective type questions and evaluates the pupil’s grammatical expertise. A 1300 word list is required.

Reading: Includes 20 multiple-choice questions and expects the students to understand a text and get the necessary data out of it.

Listening: Students are asked to hear both the dialogues and speeches given on several subjects and answer 30 multiple-choice questions.

- Second Certification Level (TORFL 2) Advanced Level
The second level (B2) of the Russian language verifies that the candidate can carry themselves with gravity and confidence in normal social circumstances, and in the cultural, institutional and professional domains and also, operates a high level of communicative ability in all areas. This level is necessary to achieve to gain admittance to a graduate study program as a non-humanities major in Russia Institutions.

Grammar and Vocabulary: This part comprises objective- type questions with 100 items enabling pupils to demonstrate their proficiency in the Russian language. A lexicon of about 2300 words is necessary.

- Third Certificate Level (TORFL 3) - Proficiency Level
The third level (C1) of the Russian language confirms that the applicant is able to communicate easily and fluently in all areas, carry out scientific research and instruct courses in Russian. This level is mandatory to attain in order to gain admittance into graduate studies as a humanities major in Russian Institutions.

- Fourth Certification Level (TORFL 4) - Fluency Level
The fourth level (C2) of the Russian language certifies that the applicant has mastered the Russian language and speaks clearly and fluently, almost to the level of a native speaker. This level is necessary to serve as a philologist and a teacher of Russian as a foreign language.
