Arabic Language Proficiency Test (ALPT) FAQs:

Ques 1. Can we take a dictionary in the exam?

Ans: No dictionaries, textbooks, cell phones or other support materials are allowed in the testing area during the Reading, Listening and Speaking sections of the test.

Ques 2. How many questions are there in the reading section?

Ans: There are approximately 30 questions in each of the Reading and Listening sections.

Ques 3. How much time is allotted for the reading and listening section?

Ans: The sections take, on average, 45-60 minutes to complete each section. Either section may take longer for test-takers who are getting many higher-level test items, which feature longer reading or listening passages.

Ques 4. What is the level of questions that can be expected in the writing and speaking section?

Ans: The levels for the Speaking prompts (questions) are determined by your level on the Listening test, and the Writing prompts are determined by your level on the Reading test.

Ques 5. How many questions do we get in the writing and speaking section?

Ans: In both the section there are three test prompts (questions).

Ques 6. Is it possible to re-record my speaking section?

Ans: After recording, you can listen to your recording, you can then do one of the following:

  • If you want to add to the recording, use RECORD/ADD TO RECORDING option.

  • If you want to remove the recording and start again, you can use the START OVER option.

Ques 7. What is the benchmark scoring level?

Ans: Scoring is done using Benchmark Levels 110. The levels are associated with Benchmark Categories of Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior.

Ques 8. When can we expect the result of the test?

Ans: Reading and Listening scores are ready as soon as the test taker finishes those sections (refresh the page for updates). Writing and Speaking scores are typically ready in 5 to 7 business days. They may be ready sooner, so the candidate can check the test results screen regularly to find the grading progress.
