The Chhattisgarh government has recently released an advertisement in order to recruit 12,489 teachers in Chhattisgarh state- the move coming ahead of Assembly polls likely to be carried out at the end of the year. The authorities will use a direct recruitment procedure to fill these vacancies. Interested and eligible aspirants can apply online for it from May 6.

The official stated that of the 12,489 vacant posts, 6288 are positions of assistant teachers, 5,772 teachers, and 432 lecturers. Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CPEB) will conduct the examination.

He said the move came after the order of the Supreme Court on May 1, 2023, to resume the selection and appointment procedure in Chhattisgarh with 58% reservation.

In September last year, the Chhattisgarh High Court put aside the state government's 2012 order to increase the quota to 58% in government job opportunities and admissions in educational institutions. The High Court had held reservations that surpassing the 50% ceiling is unconstitutional. Following the High Court judgment, reservations for the Scheduled Tribe category declined to 20% from 32%.

Subsequently, in December last year, the Chhattisgarh Assembly passed two amendment bills offering to enhance the overall quota to 76% in government jobs and admissions in educational institutions. These two bills are still pending with Raj Bhawan for the governor's approval. According to the bills, the Scheduled Tribe quota is 32 percent, Other Backward Classes (OBC- 27%, Scheduled Caste (SC)- 13%, and four percent has been provided for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The Chhattisgarh government had also pointed out a petition in Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.
