The University Grants Commission (UGC) unveiled an ambitious Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) geared toward empowering and upskilling its workforce.

Led by Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of UGC, and in the presence of Dr R Balasubramanium, Member HR, Capacity Building Commission, the ACBP represents a pioneering collaboration between UGC and the Capacity Building Commission (CBC).

This plan is a testament to UGC's commitment to enhancing the capabilities, talents, efficiencies, and qualifications of its employees. Kumar emphasized bolstering UGC employees' capacity to serve India's higher education system more effectively.

The ACBP encompasses four key training areas for UGC employees:

  1. Behavioral Competencies: Fostering the ability of staff to assume more significant roles beyond their usual responsibilities.

  2. Functional Competencies: Enhancing performance in administrative, procurement, and financial management domains.

  3. Domain Competencies: Strengthening expertise in specialized fields like policy-making and project management.

  4. New Technology Competencies: Emphasizing faster turnarounds, increased efficiency, advanced digital record-keeping, and leveraging technology for stakeholder engagement.

According to UGC notifications, by September 15, 2023, over 600 UGC employees had already engaged with the iGot Karmayogi platform. Additionally, within the first quarter of October to December 2023, approximately 630 employees completed over 4500 courses—an impressive average of 7 courses per employee.

Moreover, in the past year, UGC organized various offline training programs covering diverse subjects such as Reservation in Services, Emerging Technologies using AI, Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) in Higher Education, PFMS Awareness, Contract Management, RTI, and more.
