The Maharashtra Government announced that the Maratha candidates from the SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Class) category can apply for jobs under the EWS reservation in the State Energy Department.

The issues of reservation validity of Marathas in the newly formed SEBC quota is unresolved before the SC (Supreme Court) which has stayed a 2018 law granting reservations to the community in education and jobs. Earlier, the government took the decision that SEBC students can use the benefits for the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) provided their family income should be less than Rs. 08 lakh, as notified by Energy Minister Nitin Rautsaid.

Under this benefit, more than 8,000 posts will be filled in Mahavitaran, the State Power Discom, mentioned Rautsaid. Ashok Chavan, PWD Minister and also heads the cabinet sub-committee on the Maratha Quota Issue, said that on Dec 23, 2020, the government had given the option to SEBC category candidates to avail EWS quota and accordingly, orders got issued by the Energy Department.
