The Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA), a distinguished part of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU), orchestrated the resounding success of the 4th edition of the Symbiosis Literary Festival from December 16th to 17th, 2023. This literary extravaganza drew luminaries from diverse fields, featuring prominent speakers such as screenwriter Javed Akhtar, Loksatta editor Girish Kuber, Abhinandan Sekhri, CEO and co-founder of Newslaundry, and TV journalist Rajat Sharma.



The festival commenced with an inaugural session that sparkled with intellectual brilliance. Esteemed Indian scientist Prof (Dr.) Raghunath A Mashelkar delivered a keynote address accompanied by insights from SIU Pro-Chancellor Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar and SIU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramakrishnan Raman. Dr. Shweta Sinha Deshpande, the Director of SSLA, outlined the festival’s mission, emphasizing the creation of a space for meaningful conversations.



Engaging in a thoughtful conversation with SSLA Assistant Professor Dr. Suchetana Banerjee, Javed Akhtar shed light on the vital role of cultural dialogue in accommodating a spectrum of voices. The festival's commitment to diverse perspectives resonated throughout curated discussions, spanning topics like ‘Traditional Knowledge and Heritage Diplomacy,’ Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Language, and an insightful biography exploration of Usha Uthup.



The festival concluded with a reflective session on ‘Regional Media and Public Opinion,’ exploring the role of Hindi news media in shaping public opinion in India. This session featured a compelling exchange between Rajat Sharma and Dr. Sreeram Gopalkrishnan. Dr. Yeravdekar and Dr. Sinha Deshpande bid farewell to the festival with gratitude, announcing the eagerly awaited in-person edition of SLF in 2024.
