The ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) in collaboration with IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) and CHD (Central Hindi Directorate) is offering a 03-month online Basic Hindi Awareness course for foreign nationals. A tripartite agreement will also be signed by the officials of the three departments on Nov 03 regarding the same.

The aim of the programme is to develop basic knowledge and awareness about Hindi language amongst the foreign nationals. ICCR also informed that a total of 226 foreign students have registered for the course from 09 countries including China, Thailand, Indonesia, Mauritius, Vietnam, Taiwan, Iran, Romania, and Philippines.

The classes will be conducted twice a week and will start from Nov 16, 2022.

While explaining the responsibilities of ICCR, IGNOU, and CHD, an official statement from the Council informed that

  Being the Ministry of Education's apex body, CHD's role is the promotion of Hindi language and to make study materials accessible for students. It will also mentor and evaluate the students.

  The registration and enrollment process of the students will be done by IGNOU. The University will also look after the evaluation and certification process for students.

  ICCR will take responsibility of 70% of the fees of the Hindi programme while students will be asked to pay the remaining 30%.

  
  

ICCR also stated, "ICCR is deputing Hindi teachers and Hindi professors to India Culture Centers and ICCR Hindi chairs established in universities abroad respectively. Scholarships awarded by ICCR is also one of the important steps towards promotion of Hindi language abroad".
