5 Universities to Offer Scholarships to Displaced & Refugee Students
War has affected the education of many learners. But fortunately, keeping in mind the struggle of displaced persons and refugees, many universities worldwide are ready to help these students achieve their dreams of foreign education.

Education is our fundamental right, and it may be difficult for displaced persons and refugees to secure an education while living in a foreign country due to their status as foreign nationals. War has affected the education of many learners. But fortunately, keeping in mind the struggle of displaced persons and refugees, many universities worldwide are ready to help these students achieve their dreams of foreign education.



Five universities offering scholarships to displaced students and refugees-



1. University of London- The University will offer 28 full-fee scholarships and allow displaced students/refugees to study for online degrees regardless of location. The degree programs offered under the scholarships, include undergraduate and postgraduate courses across various categories such as marketing, accounting, financial management, law, business administration, and computer science. The application is available to students who have secured an offer to study one of the programs.



2. Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students- The scholarship by Columbia University aims to support displaced students, unable to complete their higher education due to hardships. Eligibility criteria for the scholarship-




  • The student is a displaced Afghan student on Humanitarian Parole or with special Immigrant Visas.

  • The student should have refugee status living anywhere across the world.

  • The student should be in the US under Temporary Protected Status.

  • The student should have obtained US asylum or submitted a US asylum application.

  • The student should be Internally Displaced Persons.



The University will cover the housing, tuition fees, and living expenses under the scholarship as they seek their undergraduate or graduate degrees across all 19 Columbia schools and companions. Refugee or displaced students will also acquire support and mentoring from the scholarship body, schools, and student groups.



3. The University of Glasgow- The University will offer scholarships for applicants in the UK on Humanitarian grounds who are struggling to pursue higher education. This scholarship by the University of Glasgow will cover undergraduate and postgraduate degrees taught. The scholarship aims at providing a full tuition fee waiver for the duration of study where refugees or displaced persons are not eligible to cover their tuition fees through public funds. Under the scholarship, students will get an annual £5,000 stipend and university accommodation when demanded.



4. The University of Essex- The University will offer a full fee waiver for up to five undergraduate or postgraduate students who will study at the university from the 2022-23 academic term. The university will also offer accommodation and a stipend of 5,000 pounds to support study and living costs. The eligibility criteria for the scholarship-




  • Students who have Humanitarian Protection as a result of an asylum application or via a dependants' claim are eligible.

  • Refugee students from Afghanistan with UK Asylum status or Discretionary/Limited Leave to Remain due to an asylum application are eligible for the scholarship.



5. Yesbud University, Zambia- The university will offer a Refugee Scholarship program which will cover registration fees and tuition fees for foreign nationals who have refugee status living anywhere in the world to study any course being taught at the university. Application for the scholarship program at Yesbud University will reflect the basic admission process to study. When the students are successfully admitted to the course they have applied for, they will be eligible to apply for the scholarship.
