India's participation in 50 skill categories earned the nation the 11th position, securing two silver medals, three bronze medals, and 13 medallions for excellence. In a grand event, the winners and their expert trainers were honored with certificates and cash prizes. During this momentous occasion, Pradhan also announced the launch of IndiaSkills 2023-24, a highly anticipated National Skill Competition. This initiative enables candidates to enroll through the Skill India Digital platform.
The WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition served as a replacement for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022, which was canceled due to the pandemic. This unique edition spanned 12 weeks across 15 countries and regions from September 7 to November 26, 2022.
Minister Pradhan emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to promoting competencies, applied knowledge, and hands-on training. He underscored the pivotal role that skill competitions play in India's skilling system, enhancing the employability and market acceptance of the nation's youth. He urged industry, academia, and policymakers to join forces and transform skill development into a people's movement, aligning with the vision of making India a developed nation by 2047.
The event provided a platform for the winners to share their inspiring journeys, highlighting how they overcame significant challenges, including the pandemic, to compete on a global stage. Their stories of unwavering determination and passion serve as a source of inspiration and encouragement for others to participate in skill competitions at the state and national levels.
India's impressive leap from the 39th position in the World Skills Competition in 2011 to the 11th position in 2022 underscores the evolving need for diverse skill training among youth. This equips them with a broad spectrum of skills, enhancing their employability in the current job market and aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of harnessing Nari Shakti (women's power) for the nation's development.
