Just a short while after France made headlines with its extended post-study work visa for Indian students, the country unveiled another student-friendly policy. In a significant move, France has announced that Indian students who have spent even a single semester studying in France are now eligible for a 5-year short-stay Schengen visa.

This decision reflects France's belief in nurturing connections forged during educational pursuits. The special provision has been designed for Indian alumni who hold a Master's degree or higher and have undertaken at least one semester of studies in France. The initiative aims to foster and cherish the bond between Indian students and their French counterparts.

According to the official statement from the French Embassy, to qualify for this visa, applicants must have completed a semester of study in France and have achieved a Master's degree level or higher from a recognized university in India, France, or another country. These candidates must also submit a duly completed visa application that adheres to the customary Schengen requirements.

The embassy has additionally revealed its aspiration to welcome 30,000 Indian students to France by 2030. In line with this commitment, preparations are underway for the 'Choose France Tour 2023', an upcoming event organized by the embassy and the French Institute. This tour is scheduled to take place across various regions of India throughout October.

Emphasizing the mutual benefit of these initiatives, the Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Lenain, reiterated the nation's commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse environment for students. He conveyed that France is not just a destination for education but a steadfast friend dedicated to ensuring an enriching academic and life experience for Indian students.
