At the iGEM (international Genetically Engineered Machines) 2020 contest, the IISER (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research), Pune team consisting of 14 members won a gold medal. The contest was held virtually at the International Giant Jamboree from Nov 13 to Nov 22, 2020.



The team also won the iGEMer's Award which means that the team was officially voted the 'Best Undergraduate Team Project' by all the other teams, as informed through an official release from IISER, Pune.



The iGEM competition is an international competition organized for high school and college students to use synthetic biology in an innovative way to solve real-life issues across the world.



The team was working on developing an incomprehensible approach towards Malarial eradication. Their aim was to develop a protein-based therapeutics library to fight the disease and an efficient and inexpensive diagnostic kit. They were also working for an awareness campaign aiming at advising the people regarding the prevention and cure.
