IIM Ahmedabad Hosts International Research Conference on Fintech

Misra centre for financial markets and economy (MCFME), Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) hosted the International Research Conference on FinTech: Innovation, Inclusion, and Regulation on March 10 and 11, 2023.



The conference seeks to bring leading researchers, practitioners, and regulators in the industry to reflect on issues confronted by the fintech industry in the last few years. New innovations such as adopting payment systems such as UPI and technology-driven strategies for lending decisions have transformed the routine Indians transact and borrow and present challenges to traditional banks.



The two-day event featured three-panel discussions and 17 research paper presentations on consumer protection, security, and stability to financial inclusion. On the first day, industry professionals discussed balancing fintech innovation and regulation. They discussed the current fintech regulations and their significance on entrepreneurial activity and innovation in the economic sector.



On the second day noticed paper presentations on diverse domains of the fintech industry along with academic keynote addresses on digitalization and finance: opportunities and challenges followed by two-panel discussions- finTech experiences in India and the world and fintech and financial inclusion.



While speaking at the event, IIM Ahemdabad, MCFME, chairperson, Sanket Mohapatra, said The IIM Ahemdabad Misra Centre, in cooperation with CAFRAL, is glad to host this unique conference, which brings together the RBI, legal professionals, FinTech companies, banks, and researchers. The conference offers a common platform to brainstorm on how to leverage the advantages of fast-evolving financial technologies, how rules can promote innovations while guarding the interests of consumers, the role of FinTech startups and firms in extending access to financial services to previously underserved populations, the interplay of the UPI retail payments system and the e-Rupee, among many other exciting topics.



Addressing the gathering, the director of IIM Ahmedabad, Bharat Bhasker, said the IIMA-CAFRAL FinTech conference comes at a suitable time during India's Presidency of the G20 summit. The G20 Finance Track highlights improving financial inclusion via harnessing emerging technologies, improving financial architecture and digital financial literacy, and bridging the digital divide. The Indian FinTech market is among the top three in the global FinTech ecosystem, with the US and China. I am confident that deliberations at this conference will lead to practical and actionable results that can further amplify the economic sector and its assistance to India’s ambitions of prosperity for all.
