IIT Kanpur & University of California Joined Hands for Academic and Research Collaborations

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA (UCSC), signed an agreement on joint academic and research collaborations.



Director of IIT Kanpur, Professor Abhay Karandikar & Dean of International Relations, Professor Dhirendra Katti, IIT Kanpur and Chancellor, UCSC Dr. Cynthia Larive, Assistant Vice Provost of Global Engagement at UCSC, Becky George, on behalf of UCSC have signed the formal agreement.



The collaborations will cater to areas in Computer Science, Engineering, and Biological Sciences Bioengineering. The agreement aims to provide opportunities for both institutions to share their expertise, wisdom, and resources to promote research and development in these domains.



Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, said we are delighted to collaborate with the University of California, Santa Cruz, for further collaborative academic initiatives and research collaborations. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) marks a substantial step in IIT Kanpur’s determined efforts to forge joint international cooperation across disciplines. We are confident that this collaboration will develop new opportunities for our students and faculty members in the form of joint publications, symposiums, exchange programmes, and so on. We look forward to working closely with UCSC to bolster this partnership further.



The exchange of faculty members between the two institutions will allow researchers to perform collaboratively on critical research initiatives, leveraging the strengths of each institution to manage complex scientific challenges. The mutual supervision of Ph.D. students will help students to receive guidance and mentorship from faculty members at both institutes, widening their knowledge and views.



The agreement will concentrate on areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), bioinformatics, machine learning, data science, biotechnology, etc. It will allow researchers to perform interdisciplinary research projects, leveraging the strengths of each institution to handle complicated challenges in these areas.
