India's performance in the International Olympiad for Informatics (IOI) this year was outstanding. The Indian team won a gold medal after a gap of nine years, making it India's second gold at IOI. The team consisted of four talented students: Kshitij Sodani secured gold, Paras Kasmalkar and Shreyan Ray won silver medals, and Sushil Raaja U earned bronze.

Kshitij Sodani's achievement was particularly remarkable. He participated in the IOI for four years, starting with a bronze in 2020, silver in 2021 and 2022, and finally securing gold in 2023. He is the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at IOI at the age of 17. Sodani also secured a gold medal at the Asia Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) 2023.

The IOI is a prestigious international competition, and this year's event was held in Szeged, Hungary. Madhavan Mukund from the Chennai Mathematical Institute and Jatin Yadav from IIT Delhi led India's team. The IOI website reports that this was India's best performance to date.

Sodani hails from Gurugram and currently resides in Kota. He is deeply interested in research, with a focus on theoretical computer science and mathematics. He is applying to universities abroad, including the National University of Singapore (NUS), which offers a 100% scholarship to IOI gold medalists.

To reach the IOI, students must excel in competitive rounds, including zonal and national rounds and a selection camp. The international competition involves solving challenging problems over two days, with individual scoring based on the efficiency of their algorithms.

The Indian team prepared extensively using online platforms such as Codeforces, AtCoder, and CodeChef. They tackled problems from various countries to hone their skills.
