The establishment of an India Studies programme has been declared by the Texas Southern University (TSU) in the US and the Foundation for India Studies (FIS) for their graduate school to encourage the study of India in this country, especially in the city of Houston.

The Study of India in the US will expand and execute India-focused programmes at the university in cooperation with the institution. This programme will be operated by a committee of TSU staff, with FIS assisting in an advisory capacity.

The TSU release said that this India Studies programme will include academic symposia, guest speakers, a series of public, and conferences, that promote the connection between the struggle for freedom in India and the African, American struggle for parity in America. This partnership aims to encourage knowledge about India and Indian Americans in the university and improve links with India and Indian universities to encourage student and faculty exchanges.

The TSU Graduate School Dean Dr. Gregory Maddox that there is a part of TSU's mission that will prepare students to become global citizens and to have an understanding of the complexity of societies all over the world.

The non-profit organization which has started in 2005, to promote knowledge about India's tribute to the world in the profession of language, arts, spirituality, literature, sciences, engineering, politics and economics.

The India Studies Programme which was organized in 2006 at the University of Houston Instituted was the organization's first successful project.

The project is done in partnership with the Houston Public Library (HPL) and the Houston Community College. The organization seeks to bring Indian and American Universities together for the exchange of students and faculty by facilitating MOUs between the universities.
