Indian-born Individuals Got 73% of H-1B visas in Fiscal 2022

Of the total 4.41 lakh H-1B applications approved by the US Citizenship & Immigration Services in the fiscal year 2022 (year ending September 30, 2022), getting 3.2 lahks, or 72.6 percent, of the total 4.4 lakh such visas granted.



About three of every four H-1B visas awarded went to India-born individuals. The second most expected nation of birth was China- with a comparatively less number of 55,038 (12.5 percent of the total). Canada- with 4,235 applicants (1 percent of the total), stood third in the ranking list. This digit of 4.41 lakh holds authorization for H-1B visas for initial employment and resumed employment (visa extensions).

In the last fiscal year, 3.01 lakh Indian individuals successfully received H-1B visas, 74.1 percent of the total visas approved in 2021. In comparison, 50,328 Chinese constituting 12.4 percent of the total approvals, had received H-1B visas. In brief, over the years, Indians have resumed bagging over 70 percent of the H-1B visas allocated by USCIS.



The H-1B visa applications for initial employment are pointed out for first-time employment in the United States. About 1.32 lakh applications for initial employment were approved in the fiscal year 2022, as against 1.23 lakh in the last fiscal.



While there is an annual allocation of 85,000 for H-1B visa allotments, some classifications of employers, such as those engaged in higher education, are excused from the cap, resulting in the more elevated figure of authorization of H-1B visas for new careers or jobs.



During the fiscal year 2022, about 77,673 Indian-born people acquired an H-1B visa for new jobs (58.7 percent of the total). The number for Chinese is 18,911 (or 14.3 percent of the total).



During the fiscal year 2021, Indians received 75,858 (61.5 percent) visas for initial employment. Chinese got 15.2 percent of such visas.
