Indian students have made the nation proud by winning silver and gold medals in the International Olympiads held over the last two weeks. The Olympiads were held for different subjects- Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. The Chemistry and Physics Olympiads were hosted by China and Switzerland virtually. The Biology Olympiad was held in Armenia, while the Mathematics Olympiad was held in Norway.
Most other students from the participating team of 4-6 people won bronze and silver medals, and one student each won a gold medal in Mathematics, Physics, and Biology. Pranjal Srivastava has been participating in the Olympiad since he was 14. Srivastava won a gold medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad, and the remaining five got bronze medals. At the event this year, he scored a hattrick with his third medal in a row.
The other Indian student Deevyanshu Malu won a gold medal, and the other four participating teams won silver medals in the Physics Olympiad. Mayank Pndhari won one gold medal and three silver medals in the Biology Olympiad. In the Chemistry Olympiad, India won four silver medals.
Around 350 students participated in the event from 75 countries. Jointly with Kazakhstan and Singapore, India was placed in the 11th position in the event. It was a big deal for the students who won gold, silver, and bronze medals.
For the Internation Olympiads, students are selected through a strict screening process and are later trained at Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education. The Olympiads in India are supported by the Ministry of Education, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), and Department of Science and Technology (DST).
