A national-level Hackathon, KRITAGYA, has been organized by the ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) in the month of August 2020 to promote transformation and innovation in agriculture and allied sectors across the country.



On Feb 3, 2021, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, informed about the Hackathon, in written, in Lok Sabha.



The objective of the Hackathon is to provide opportunities to the students, faculties, and innovators for demonstrating their technologies and innovations in agriculture and allied sectors. The total numbers of received applications are 784. The evaluation of the ideas is based on the uniqueness, value proposition, suitability, and plan to scale-up technology. Several innovations got selected under the program that focuses on real-time detection of plant diseases, site-specific application of pesticides, robotic harvesting of coconut/ oil palm, and women-friendly equipment for small farm operations especially for fish cutting and sericulture.



To address the issues that are challenging the farming sector, ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) has also established an institutional mechanism through Research Institutions, Agricultural Universities, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
