Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur Launched 1st Ladakh Education Fair
RK Mathur, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, launched the first Ladakh Education Fair virtually, being organized by the Higher Education Department in partnership with the University of Ladakh and Ladakh Skill Development Mission (LSDM) at EJM College, Leh. Ladakhi Education Fair aims at career counseling and offers information on scholarships, apprenticeship programmes, skill development, and education loans for students to allow them to avail the benefits.

On August 19, RK Mathur, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, launched the first Ladakh Education Fair virtually, being organized by the Higher Education Department in partnership with the University of Ladakh and Ladakh Skill Development Mission (LSDM) at EJM College, Leh.



Sir Mathur also initiated the Ladakh Skill Development Mission portal during the occasion. C Phuntsog was present at the event as a guest of honor. Chairman, Feroz Ahmed Khan, LAHDC Kargil, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Ladakh (UoL), Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Professor SK Mehta, and Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel were also present at the event.



Lieutenant Governor called Ladakhi youth the future of Ladakh and suggested making full use of the first Ladakh Education Fair. He admired the attitude of the Ladakhi youth for coming back to Ladakh after completing their higher education to work for the betterment of society. He said this is a positive sign for society and the regional economy and informed that efforts are being pushed to offer jobs and scholarships to the students of Ladakh.



Mathur stated that the Ladakhi Education Fair aims at career counseling and offers information on scholarships, apprenticeship programmes, skill development, and education loans for students to allow them to avail the benefits. He expressed his happiness that many students from Ladakh are availing benefits of various scholarship schemes of the Central Government and UT Administration after the formation of Ladakh as a Union Territory.



LG said choosing a career or profession is an important decision for the youth. He suggested the primary sector as an area that can contribute to the economy of Ladakh in the upcoming years. He highlighted the need for convergence between the future of Ladakh and the subjects selected by the students, especially those relevant to Ladakh. He recommended that students may choose professions where Ladakh can provide ready-made opportunities.



C Phuntsog, the former Vice-Chancellor, shared his experiences and underlined the importance of analytical learning and education as an investment in human resources. Padma Angmo, Secretary/Commissioner of Higher Education, welcomed the guests. Sameena Iqbal, the principal of EJM College, gave the vote of thanks.
