Meeting to Promote Education Collaboration Between India and South Africa

South African representatives at the G20 summit in India consider that the meeting on education is an inclined platform to boost the academic and skill development collaborations and bilateral education cooperation between the two countries.
Director of the Department of Higher Education and Training in Pretoria Reineth Mgiba, who is participating in the second edition of the G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) with two of his associates, said South Africa and India, being part of the BRICS group, help each other for overall development.
He said that as far as education is concerned, the education system in South Africa is more or less similar to India, though there could be a contrast in scale and magnitude.
He added that cooperation and joint research among the top universities of the two countries could be a win-win situation for both. We look forward to exploring more faculty and student exchange, faculty development, student enrolments, and scholarship programmes to encourage the level of education.
India is among the leading five destinations for African students who desire to pursue higher education overseas. Indian varsities have also been encouraging and marketing popular bachelor’s degrees in commerce, information, engineering, health sciences, communication technology, nursing, and law, among others, globally.
Spanning several decades, India’s ties with South Africa have emotional bonding. It was in the African nation that Mahatma Gandhi began his political career.
