The New Zealand Govt has announced to reopen its border in 05 stages throughout 2022. The Govt will prioritize fully vaccinated international students for the 3rd stage starting from April 12.

Under a special border exemption category, the Govt will allow 5,000 international students to return for the 2nd semester of their academic year. The Govt will release more details regarding the selection process for the aforementioned 5,000 students soon, in addition to 1,000 students who were already approved last fall for entry in 2022.

The Chief Executive of Education New Zealand Chris Whelan also informed that the govt will provide an opportunity for students from Visa Waiver countries such as South Korea and Japan to enter NZ. These students will be allowed from July for short visits of up to 03 months, he added.

The visa processing systems for the applications of all international students will commence by Oct 2022.

The govt also advised the international students to plan for 2023, however, as visa services will not be boosted again until Oct 2022

Mr. Whelan, while reacting to the news about competitive countries and their early borders reopening, said, "At least some international university students will be able to make it onshore for the start of semester two, although only a small proportion of the number we know are clamoring to get here".
