BHU- A research scholar from Banaras Hindu University has been chosen for United Nations (UN) training programme. The BHU research scholar- Saumya Singh, JRF & Research Scholar in DST-Mahamana Center of Excellence in Climate Change Research, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, BHU.



Saumya Singh is pursuing her research under the surveillance of Professor R K Mall. She is one of the five candidates chosen from over 100 participants from around the globe to participate in the second phase of the training programme. She has been selected for UNITAR Hiroshima Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme, taking place between March 6 and 11 in Apia, Samoa.



According to the BHU statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, Japan's government is supporting the programme.

The United Nations (UN) training programme aims to boost women professionals’ administration skills and knowledge in disaster risk reduction (DRR), preparing, controlling, confronting, and recovering from tsunami-based disasters.



It also aims to develop an inclusive strategy for disaster risk reduction (DRR) contextualized to the requirements of their communities and countries, promoting effective communication and the development of multi-stakeholder coalitions. The programme seeks to contribute to SDGs via quality education, reduced inequalities, gender equality, justice, sustainable cities, communities, peace, and strong institutions.
