The first mega Research & Development Fair: IInvenTiv of all the 23 IITs from October 14-15, 2022
For the first time in history, all the 23 IITs of the country will come jointly for a mega Research & Development Fair to be carried out from October 14-15, 2022, at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) premises. The R&D Fair- being carried out in remembrance of the 75th year of India’s Independence in line with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. It will display projects on various domains covering climate change, rural agriculture, sustainability, affordable healthcare, drone technology, etc.

For the first time in history, all the 23 IITs of the country will come jointly for a mega Research & Development Fair to be carried out from October 14-15, 2022, at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) premises. Hon’ble Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, will grace the inaugural session. A Steering Committee directed by Chairman, BoG IIT Madras, Dr. Pawan Goenka, and Chairman, BoG IIT Hyderabad, Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, and IIT Roorkee; has been allocated to look behind the event- IInvenTiv. IInvenTiv event aims at creating holistic awareness around the research and invention work being accomplished by the IITs and pursuing collaborative avenues among institutes, state universities, industry, and the IITs for more profitable development and reach of the creations and inventions at the grassroots level.
The R&D Fair- being carried out in remembrance of the 75th year of India’s Independence in line with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. It will display projects on various domains covering climate change, rural agriculture, sustainability, affordable healthcare, drone technology, etc. The purpose is to encourage innovations in line with the Make in India and Digital India endeavors and pursue solutions for a more pleasing reach and scalability of inventions and creations that aid the masses across provinces.
The event also includes administrators and students from institutions from tier 2 and tier 3 cities for them to have a nearer glimpse of the R&D ecosystem of IITs and, in turn, teach a parallel innovation-driven perspective toward inventing projects of national interest. It would encourage a thorough understanding of the necessities at the grassroots level in critical areas such as rural development, agriculture, sanitation, resource management, etc., and engage them to create innovations that make an optimistic influence on an enormous section of society.
While commenting on the prospect of the event, Chairman, BoG IIT Madras, Dr. Pawan Goenka, stated as India is taking measures to scale new peaks in research & innovations, the IITs are at the forefront of helping the nation in achieving self-reliance across sectors.
IInvenTiv aims to bring focus to essential innovations from all the 23 IITs so that understanding regarding R&D at the IITs boosts. This event would help create more reasonable technologies for the advantage of all. Dr. Goenka added that they expect active participation from academic and R&D institutions, government, and industry to seek more cooperative and integrative avenues for promoting the vision of ”Make in India” and Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
Chairman, BoG IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Roorkee, Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, said that the IITs consistently contribute toward nation-building. In today’s time, when multi-disciplinary research directing to cutting-edge inventions and creations is taking center stage, the research and development accomplished at the IITs must be displayed and shown to the industry and policymakers for significant outcomes that aid society. With this Fair or event, we bring the fundamental stakeholders from government institutions, industry, and academia closer to collaborate on constructing an Atma Nirbhar Bharat. The Fair offers an opportunity to learn, swap ideas and innovate for revving the country’s progress in the ‘Amrit Kaal.”
Prof. B. S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, stated that IITs have been toiling endlessly for the past decades towards improving the research and development pool of the nation. From creating breakthrough discoveries to developing grassroots inventions, IITs have stood the test of time in helping the country for holistic growth. This R&D Fair is anticipated to improve the public perception of the IIT ecosystem and to look for potential cooperative avenues among essential stakeholders.
There are ten broad themes specified in concentrated areas for the event:
- Clean Energy & Renewables (including Hydrogen and EV)
- Defense and aerospace
- AI/ML/Blockchain technologies (including quantum computing)
- Manufacturing (including smart, advanced, and industry 4.0)
- Communication Technologies (including education and 5G)
- Healthcare (including devices and digital health)
- Environment and Sustainability, (including air, water, and rivers)
- Semiconductors, Flexible electronics & Nanotechnology
- Smart Cities & Infrastructure (including smart mobility)
- Robotics, Sensors & Actuators
A total of 75 projects brought out by 23 IITs are chosen for the Fair, along with six showcase projects. Out of the six showcase projects, IIT Kanpur will conduct a presentation on the continuous R&D in drone technology and how diverse its utilities have evolved. IIT Bombay will lead a presentation on the Bahubhaashak project, which allows speech-to-speech translation, NPTEL, SWAYAM, and MOOCs videos in vernacular languages, in line with the idea of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). IIT Madras will direct a presentation on 5G Core and allied technologies. IIT Delhi will lead a presentation on R&D in the more comprehensive extents of climate change, agriculture, rural technologies, sanitation, etc. IIT Kharagpur will lead a presentation on affordable healthcare gadgets and technologies, and IIT Hyderabad will lead a presentation on technological inventions and creations in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.
The preferred projects will be presented before the audience in selected booths during the 2-day mega Fair. Representatives from the CII- Confederation of Indian Industry, FICCI- Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, and NASSCOM- National Association of Software and Service Companies, will be present at the event. The audience also includes administrators and students from colleges from small towns, universities, global IIT alumni, faculties of various CFTIs, and scientists from CSIR. ICAR, DRDO, ISRO, and so on. The Fair will hold interactive and one-to-one sessions among academia and industry delegates.
