The Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced a number of changes to the English as a Foreign Language test. (TOEFL).

Due to a rule change, the TOEFL iBT test has been shortened by one hour. Tests used to take 3 hours, but now they take less than 2 hours.

To that end, the tests now include a new, more modern "What to write" section.

To accomplish this, the test now includes a new, more modern task, 'Writing for Academic Discussions', replacing the previous stand-alone writing task. The reading section has also been shortened and all ungraded test questions have been removed.

The registration process has also been simplified. Test takers can create an account and register to schedule a TOEFL iBT test as soon as possible. Registration will start in July 2023.
