Two Professors From University of Hyderabad Elected as Fellows of the UK’s Royal Society of Biology
Two professors from the University of Hyderabad- Professor P Prakash Babu and Professor A S Raghavendra were recently elected as (FRSB)- Fellows of the Royal Society of Biology, UK, for their contribution to research in biology.

Two professors from the University of Hyderabad- Professor P Prakash Babu and Professor A S Raghavendra were recently elected as (FRSB)- Fellows of the Royal Society of Biology, UK, for their contribution to research in biology.
Raghavendra is presently an Institution of Eminence (IoE) research chair professor in the School of Life Sciences. Professor P Prakash Babu is a senior professor in the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, School of Life Sciences, at University of Hyderabad.
Since 1985 Professor Raghavendra has been with the Department of Plant Sciences, School of Life Sciences. He has been an associate of all the science academies in India (IASc, INSA, NASI, and NAAS) besides being a fellow of TWAS.
He holds several national and international Awards, including the INSA-Young Scientist Medal, a Corresponding Member of the American Society of Plant Biology, and a DFG-Mercator Visiting Professor. Professor Raghavendra's research areas are mitochondria-chloroplast interaction, photosynthetic carbon assimilation, and signal transduction in stomatal guard cells.
Professor Babu’s research group has been operating in the area of Brain diseases in cooperation with neuro clinicians. His primary research interests are Meningioma (Brain tumors), Neurodegenerative diseases, Cerebral Malaria, Cerebral Ischemia (Stroke), and Glioma. He has been and is associated with diverse neuroscience societies in various capacities and the pharma and biotech companies. He is a member of the decision-making bodies of different universities and institutes.
The professor is a Fellow of the National Academy of Biological Sciences, Chennai Science and Technology (STA), Japan; Fellow of the Indian Academy of Neurosciences; Fellow of A P Academy of Sciences; and a General Secretary of the (SNCI)- Society for Neurochemistry, India. He performed earlier as a Secretary General of the Federation of Asian Biotech Association, Secretary of the (APSN)- Asia Pacific Society for Neurochemistry, Singapore; and Vice-President of the Indian Society for Parasitology.
The fellowship is the most elevated level of membership in RSB and is bestowed in honor of one’s scientific contribution to research in biology. Fellows of RSB are those who accomplished prestige in biological research, teaching, or application in Biology.
