UGC Discussed Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) with Universities

UGC- The University Grants Commission declared the event to discuss initiating the operationalization of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) for university-level students.



According to the tweet by UGC India, this discussion event was to take place at 10 AM on December 29, 2022. The UGC Chairman, Professor M Jagadesh Kumar, lead this discussion.



More details were also mentioned in the released notification along with the tweet. (NeGD)- The National e-Governance Division of the (MeitY)- Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is assigned with sharing the end-to-end flow of the Academic Bank of Credits and guide on the subject. This discussion programme was webcast live at the given time at different social media handles of UGC. These social platforms include Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube.



The notification also mentioned that the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) had proposed the establishment of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). ABC aims to work toward paperless governance and lower administrative overhead by minimizing paper use and reducing the verification procedure. This national-level facility operates as a bank for academic objectives and will have students as academic account holders. The services delivered by ABC will include credit verification, authentication of academic awards, credit redemption, and credit accumulation.



To effectively execute this facility, the notification has mentioned that all universities, with authorization from their statutory authorities or amendment of extant ordinances, register with the ABC. They are also suggested to monitor the development and operationalization of this programme at their respective university. Through ABC, students can open an academic bank account to exchange credits to award any degree, diploma, or certificate.
