Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has granted the approval to 3,000 visas for young Indians to live and work in the country. This Visa will remain valid for upto 02 years.

The aim of this UK-India Young professionals scheme is to offer an opportunity to the Indian graduates aged from 18 years to 30 years.

Rishi Sunak’s Office on Twitter also added, "Today the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme was confirmed, offering 3,000 places to 18-30-year-old degree-educated Indian nationals to come to the UK to live and work for up to two years". The UK PM office made the announcement after Sunak's meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 17th edition of the G20 Summit.

Similar to the Youth Mobility Scheme which requires no qualifications or English language , the applicants, under the Young Professional Scheme, must possess a minimum of diploma or degree equivalent to higher education of at least 03 years. They must also be able to communicate in the host country's language i.e. English.

The authorities are yet to announce the selection process for 3,000 Indian professionals, however, the visa will likely be over-subscribed, with millions of Indian students meeting the eligibility criteria. Some have also raised concerns that the category will get dominated by tech professional to gain monopoly on this scheme.

The UK PM said, “I am pleased that even more of India’s brightest young people will now have the opportunity to experience all that life in the UK has to offer – and vice-versa - making our economies and societies richer".
