When the war between Russia and Ukraine started, a Physics teacher, Andriy Bovan, shook hands with thousands of other Ukrainians registering in the national army to protect his country. While fighting for his country, Andriy puts down his gun on the side, opens his laptop, and takes online science classes for his students.
Schools shut down when the war between Russia and Ukraine started. The beginning of this situation was almost the same as the time of the Covid-19 pandemic because no one knew when will the schools recommence. The classes for education restarted in March but were predominantly online. During this challenging time, Ukrainian teachers were ready to help Ukrainian students continue learning and were busy creating distance resources.
The efforts made by Ukrainian teachers are commendable as a university professor in Kharkiv hides underground and teaches children who are there living with her in the bomb shelter. To conclude, in this complicated time, education continues anyway.
The chief operating officer at the education organization Osvitoria, Anna Sydrouk, gave a statement that Ukrainian children suffered for two years because of covid, and now they are suffering from war. She said around 5.7 million school-age children are deeply affected by the war between Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian kids attended webinars and TV sessions online mode even from bomb shelters.
Osvitoria was inaugurated in 2014 to boost the quality of education in Ukraine, provide vocational training to students in their teenage living in orphanages, and collaborate with the government to pile out teacher training programs. During the pandemic, Osvitoria established a digital education platform for learners in fifth to eleventh grade. The online school by Osvitoria was named Ukrainian School Online. The school did not lack the quality of education as it provided online tests, revision materials, and video lessons as well.
Anna Sydrouk explained that the education organization is safeguarding the education of the children who left the country and those who are still here. The organization does not want children to compromise their studies during the war. She also added that students should be allowed to connect with their teachers and classmates during this stressful time.
