The University of Cambridge has launched a Pre-Degree Foundation programme. This free programme has a lower entry requirement to escalate the diversity across the renowned educational institution in the United Kingdom.

The University also announced that the new Cambridge Foundation Year will be free and fully funded with the aim to engage a fresh stream of applicants.

The course will be a one-year full-time residential course that will start with its 1st batch of 52 students in October 2022 for the start of the new academic session.

Director of Foundation Year Course at Cambridge Dr Alex Pryce, "This is a big day for those who are receiving their Cambridge Foundation Year offer, and a big day for the University".

A total of 267 applications were submitted for the pilot Foundation Year programme i.e. around 05 applications for every place.

The course will aim at around 50 candidates annually who belong to the educational and social disadvantage section and show the potential to be successful in a degree in the Arts, Social Sciences, or Humanities.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Stephen Toope said, "The Cambridge Foundation Year offers a fresh approach to widening participation at Cambridge". He added that this innovative programme aims at reaching a new stream of Cambridge candidates and transforming their lives.

Philanthropists Christina and Peter Dawson have made a donation to fund the launch of the course and a full one-year scholarship for all the shortlisted students who will be studying at one of the 13 Cambridge colleges.

On successful completion, the students will be awarded a CertHE qualification from the University and with suitable attainment can progress towards Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities degrees.
