The Govt of Western Australia is clearing off all the blocks to boost the flow of international students to the education institutions of the state and a major element of this new initiative is to leverage the agent channel in recruitment.

In its 2022/23 state budget, the McGowan govt has reserved the AUS$41.2 million to strengthen the international education sector, out of which AUS$10 million has been earmarked for an 'Agent Incentive Scheme'. This unique scheme is a government-funded programme aimed at incentivising agents. Across the major English-speaking destinations, The agents’ commissions, across most of the English-speaking regions , are generally paid entirely by schools or institutions.

Frim Sept 2022 and June 2023, the govt will pay AUS$500 per student to agents for placements in schools, VET, or ELICOS and AUS $1,000 for their enrolments in Universities. The scheme will continue till the fund is empty due to commission payments to agents within the specified time.

These government-funded commissions should not be seen as a replacement for the incentives paid by individual institutions, but rather a top-up for agents as they will get their govt commission payments directly from education institutions participating in the scheme.
