The Supreme Court declined the plea to hold the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) Undergraduate 2020 exam in Gulf countries but advised Centre to allow students who have exams scheduled on September 13 to come via Vande Bharat Mission flights.

As per the Court, there will be no relaxation concerning the '14-day quarantine' subject but candidates are free to approach the state authorities for relaxation related matters.

There are around 4000 students who are unable to appear in the exam due to the ongoing ban on international flights, as stated in the plea filed by Abdul Aziz, a social worker, on behalf of these students. As per the plea, the demand was made to conduct the entrance exam either in online mode or by arranging examination centers in GCC countries. This demand was opposed by both the National Testing Authority and the Medical Council of India.

The SC agreed that this year there is a shortage of timing to extend the exam but also advised to consider conducting these exams online from next year.

The main concern of MCI was to maintain the uniformity and secrecy of the exam which as per MCI would not be possible if the exams are being held abroad.
