A total of 229 public school students residing in a hostel in the Washim district of Maharashtra have been tested positive for coronavirus including 04 school staffs, as per the official statement. The area has been declared a containment zone.

Around 327 students who belong to various districts from Vidarbha region stay at the Bhavna Public School's hostel. Earlier, 05 employees and 39 students from a Latur district of Marathwada had found positive. These students joined the Washim hostel on Feb 14, as notified by Ajit Shelar, Risod Tehsildar.

He further mentioned that 21 students tested corona positive in the first few days. After the test report of 21 students, RT-PCR test was conducted of all students, he added.

On Wednesday, Maharashtra witnessed a significant rise in COVID-19 cases hvaing over 8000 cases coming to light in a single day after a break of four months, as notified by the health officials.

The state reported a total of 8807 cases taking its total count to 21,21,119 and with 80 deaths on Wednesday, the fatality count of the state has reached to 51,937, as per the offcials.
