A list of a total of 24 self-titled, unrecognised institutes has been released by the UGC (University Grant Commission), tagging them as fake.

While most of the colleges and institutions in the list are from Uttar Pradesh state, colleges from Delhi, West Bengal and Odisha are also included in the list.

As per the issued notice, 'A degree can only be awarded by a University established under the Central, State/ Provincial Act or an institution deemed to be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act or an institution especially empowered by an Act of Parliament to confer the degree'.
