The Uttarakhand government has initiated a landmark collaboration, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with private school management within the state in order to encourage education equality. The primary objective of this MoU is to create opportunities for students from economically weaker backgrounds by establishing dedicated schools catering to their educational needs.

This significant initiative aims to construct both day and residential schools across various towns in Uttarakhand over the next two years, amounting to an estimated investment of ?680 crore. These schools are earmarked for development in areas including Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Narendranagar, Mussoorie, Rudrapur, Tehri, Bageshwar, Srinagar, Kashipur Haldwani, Nainital, and Ramnagar.

The selected private schools in this programme currently operate institutions in the state but predominantly cater to students from urban locales. Banshidhar Tiwari, Director General of School Education, revealed this transformative decision, emphasizing the inclusion of schools to benefit underprivileged sections hitherto deprived of adequate educational access.

This pioneering step not only aims to provide educational opportunities but also contributes directly to employment generation, offering prospects to an estimated 2,290 individuals in the region.

Notably, the private school managements partnering in this initiative comprise a diverse array of institutions, including the Asian Charitable Society, Cambrian Hall Educational Trust, Children's Academy Association, Doon International Educational Society, Guru Nanak Academy Society, Mussoorie International School Society, MP Singh Foundation, Oberoi Education Trust, Pestle Weed College, Sant Kabeer Educational Society, Trilingual Academy Singapore, and Trilingual Kids Academy.
