On Sunday, 291 students received educational loans worth up to Rs. 18.51 crore at an education loan Mela organised here.



P.T.R. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Minister for Finance, and P. Moorthy, Minister for Commercial Taxes, handed over sanction letters to the students. Mr. Moorthy said the camp was scheduled with the active participation of nationalised and privatised banks in order to encourage eager students to seek higher education without any obstacle. A target to issue loans to the tune of Rs. 250 crores has been settled for the current financial year to support poor students pursue education.



(MSMEs)- Grant of loans to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and students would take the nation towards development. He said by participating in quarterly meetings of the State-Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), I am able to calculate the credit requirements of people from diverse backgrounds and guarantee that they receive loans as per their needs.



As per the Lead Bank Manager, D. Anil, around 1,550 students participated in the mela from Madurai & Sivaganga districts. He said sixteen primary banks participated.



S. Venkatesan, MP, stated more than 900 online applications for educational loans were received. Collector S. Aneesh Sekhar, Madurai South MLA M. Boominathan, Corporation Commissioner Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, and Mayor Indirani Ponvasanth were present.
