Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu, has cleared the bill anticipating the reservation of 7.5% to students of government schools who have qualified the NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) for admission into medical programmes.

The Governor has given his assent to the Bill a day after the state government's decision to take the executive route to implement the quota arrangement for the ongoing academic session 2020-21.

As per the official release from the Raj Bhavan, the Governor also looked up for the Solicitor General of India's opinion on the matter through a letter and the response was received on October 29. The statement said, "As soon as the opinion was received, honourable Governor has given assent to the Bill".
