Amritsar is All Set to Host G20 Meet for Three Days

The Second Education Working Group Meeting of the G20 summit has started in Amritsar from March 15 to 17. The meeting will focus on furthering the conference held during the first G20 Education Working Group meeting held in Chennai from February 1 to 2.



Notably, India has the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.



Best approaches in Technology related education in member nations were discussed in a major way with stress on areas to provide inclusive, relevant, equitable, and high-quality education and lifelong educational opportunities for all, within the theme of One Earth, One Family, One Future.



During India’s G20 Presidency, the Education Working Group will focus on four areas:




  • Issues of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy

  • Tech-enabled learning

  • The Future of work

  • Research and innovation collaboration.



The G20 was established in 1999 after the Asian economic crisis as a platform for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss global economic and financial problems. The forum was later boosted to the level of heads of state and government in the trace of the global economic and financial crisis of 2007. In 2009, it was appointed the “premier forum for international economic cooperation.



The G20 includes 19: Argentina, Australia, India, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Turkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and European Union.



Meanwhile, a group of panelists and representatives of G20 countries have reached the holy city to participate in the Y20 Consultation Summit being carried out at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (GNDU) on March 15, paid respect and worshipped at Golden Temple and visited the Jallianwala Bagh on Tuesday.



Talking to media individuals Naveen Kumar from the Ministry of Youth Affairs Professor Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean, Student Welfare and Professor Sukhpreet Singh; Professor Sarbjot Singh Behl, Dean of Academic Affairs and Nodal Officer; and others told about the programmes, scope, and goals related to Y-20.



Professor Sarbjot Singh Behl said that Y20 was an official Engagement Group for youth from all G20 member nations to lead discussions with each other. Y20 motivated youth as future leaders to boost awareness of global problems, exchange opinions, argue, negotiate, and reach a consensus. He said multiple international events were scheduled across India as part of the Youth20 engagement group. Out of these events, universities will host youth consultations.



He said the events are based on five themes:




  • Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War

  • Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation, & 21st Century Skills

  • Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life

  • Health, Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth

  • Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance.



He said the main event would take place in the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre of the Guru Nanak Dev University on March 15, 2023. During the panel discussion, the theme would be “Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation, and 21st Century Skills. Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor, Harjot Singh Bains, Higher Education Minister, Secretary of Higher Education, will also participate in this event.
