The state of Andhra Pradesh failed to fulfill the laptop computers it had promised to several lakh pupils in classes 9 through 12 enrolled in government schools on Monday. According to current government sources, the idea of distributing laptops has been abandoned since "they are expensive and many digital learning apps don't operate on them."
Currently, the government is thinking about giving class 8 kids exclusively Tabs (tablet computers). The price for each Tab that has digital instructional materials will be Rs 12,000 for the government.
A top education official stated, "We are hoping to deliver the Tabs by September this year." According to the official, a laptop will not be needed because class 8 students will be forced to bring the same Tab to all of their lessons.
The Tab will be distributed to each kid entering class 8 in government and aided schools each year. In an effort to encourage mothers to bring their children to school, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy stated last year that kids in classes 9 through 12 could choose laptop computers instead of the Rs 15,000 handout (now decreased by Rs 2,000).
The 2022 academic year, he stated, would see the delivery of the laptops. As a result, 8,21,655 pupils in grades 9 through 12 chose laptops over monetary handouts. Vasati Deevena, another gratis programme, would have covered more than 1.10 lakh of these pupils.

"I am in class 10 and chose a laptop over money. But now we are informed that the laptop is not there. If they give it in junior inter (class 11), I might have to wait another year "K Naga Prabha of Guntur complained.
According to government sources, AP Technology Services was given the responsibility of purchasing laptops. Depending on the configuration, the APTS wanted to pay Rs 18,000 for each laptop. However, it was claimed that the suppliers' pricing per laptop was Rs 26,000, making it expensive for the government.
"There was also a supply issue. Due to limited production, which was brought on by a chipset shortage, the requisite amount of gadgets was not easily accessible, a top official handling the problem told PTI.
He said that if laptops were purchased at the price suggested by the suppliers, the state would be subject to an additional financial burden of Rs 657 crore.
